We are hiring a Director Software Engineer to join our CIA Focus Area in Portugal or Brazil!
At the CIA Focus Area team, we build the platform where all organizations can implement and manage their wellbeing strategy, helping to make every company a Wellness company, while generating a positive impact on their business. Our team is a multidisciplinary group composed of engineers, a Product Manager, and a Product Designer. Together, we’re responsible for delivering a robust and user-friendly platform tailored to the needs of our enterprise clients.
As a Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading and scaling the engineering structure behind our growth initiatives. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, and Data to define the strategic direction of our B2B experience, ensuring it aligns with business goals and user needs.
Beyond execution, you will play a key role in shaping our team’s structure, fostering a high-performing culture, and ensuring we have the right processes, talent, and technical vision in place to drive sustainable growth across Wellhub’s platform.
YOUR IMPACT
- Lead the design and development of some of the most critical and technically complex services in our ecosystem, focusing on long-term, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
- Define and evolve the technical vision for multiple teams, ensuring architectural consistency, system resilience, and alignment with product strategy.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders (Product, Design, Data, etc.) to prioritize and deliver initiatives that drive business growth and improve user experience.
- Mentor and empower engineering managers and tech leads, fostering a high-performing culture focused on continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Oversee integration efforts with third-party APIs and tools, ensuring seamless and secure connectivity across systems.
- Guide modernization of legacy systems to enhance scalability, performance, and developer experience.
- Champion operational excellence through best practices in monitoring, incident management, and system reliability.
- Create and support a collaborative, agile environment where engineers are engaged, productive, and have clear paths for growth.

Main requirements
- Proven experience managing and mentoring multiple high-performing engineering teams in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.
- Strong architectural background, with a track record of designing and scaling complex, distributed systems and modern web applications.
- Deep experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP and a solid understanding of cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Proficient in designing RESTful APIs and leading cross-functional collaboration between frontend and backend teams.
- Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and systems design.
- Experienced in relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB), with an understanding of scaling and performance best practices.
- Able to set a clear technical vision, communicate it effectively across teams, and ensure alignment with business strategy.
- Proficient in one or more backend languages (e.g., Java, Ruby, Go, C++); Golang experience is a plus.
- Strong communicator capable of influencing across functions and geographies, with fluency in English and experience leading globally distributed teams.
